Inclusion Criteria: i. male and female ii. underwent an oesophagectomy iii. completed a pre-operative CPEX test Exclusion Criteria: i. patients that were unable to complete a full CPEX test ii. emergency or palliative surgery iii. pharyngolaryngo-oesophagectomy iv. oesophagectomy and gastrectomy
